About

The Manning Centre for Building Democracy provides research, training and networking opportunities for Canadians to learn about and discuss ideas to make Canada a better governed country. We seek and support practical and effective policy approaches that promote individual freedom, entrepreneurship, and fair and just relationships between the individual and society.

CONSTRUCTIVE AND OPEN CONVERSATIONS

Through our networking conferences, we strive to provide an open and constructive forum for free-wheeling discussion, open to anyone who chooses to participate, independent of formal party affiliation.

Over the past decade, our annual Manning Networking Conferences have grown into one of Canada’s largest annual gatherings of political and policy thinkers and activists. We offer unique opportunities to participate in Canada’s liveliest policy conversations, to learn of new campaign techniques, to see old friends and make new ones.

A NEW GENERATION OF IDEAS AND LEADERSHIP

Our 2018 conference takes place amidst the massive period of social, technological and political change we are experiencing in Canada and globally. Here at home, this includes the emergence of new leaders locally, provincially and nationally. This is particularly evident in Canada’s centre-right movement, with fresh political leadership nationally and in most provinces.
Hence our 2018 theme: a new generation of ideas and leadership.

GREAT SPEAKERS, DIVERSE TOPICS

Once again this year, we are assembling a great line-up of speakers and topics. Speakers, panelists and moderators already confirmed are listed below, with others added regularly as the conference approaches. The detailed program will be published a few weeks before the conference, and will include lively sessions on defence, energy and environment, ethics in public life, freedom of speech, global affairs, Indigenous reconciliation and progress, NAFTA and other trade issues, the Senate, and a host of other topics.
If you have suggestions regarding speakers and topics, please email your suggestions to us!

PS: If your group or organization wishes to hold ancillary meetings or sessions before or during the main conference, please let us know and we will work with you to make that possible. If you wish to have an exhibit booth or be a conference sponsor, email our VP Development John Whittaker.
